A dragon, a princess, a superhero, a fairy a firefighter and construction worker. When kids get into dress-up, their imaginations can transform them into whatever they want to be. They are exploring and communicating making sure that everyone is involved in their game. Dressing up as character from a television or movies, or one they made up entirely on their own, can help children develop creative skills.
Colour mixing is something so simple but so exciting for young children. The lesson is vital as well, the basic understanding that when you mix two things a third new thing is created. We loved seeing what those little fingers were doing as they sucked up and squirted the coloured water in each of the droppers. A great fine motor skills activity. Invitation to Explore A simple magnifying glass will let kids get an up close view of the veins on a leaf and the details of a flower. It's also a great way to introduce them to items that real scientists use. Ready to make lemonadeLemons smell like hmmmm......lemons...How does it taste? Salt smells like the sea...I like the taste of lemons!!We are making sure that all the sugar is dissolvedSugar, lemons, salt and water= lemonade..We are using ziplock bags to mix colour and working on our fine motor skillsIn the photos below, you will see examples of how stimulating learning opportunities are created for our young learners. You can see how the children are observing and exploring with the paint, paint brushes, themselves, and each other. Life skills with Mr. PrewittIt's not mine...It's ours...Central Idea:Through exploring and communicating we learn to make sense of the things around us. Lines of inquiry: Investigating the way objects work Natural and man-made phenomena Ways to represent the physical world around us Developing awareness and safety through communication Invitation to drawSetting out a vase of fresh flowers with four blank white papers and water colours, is such an invitation for young adults to try their skills in art. Asking open questions, promote curiosity as they draw: what colour are the petals? are they the same shape? where is the stem?? is the stem underneath the water and how does it look in water? The answers are different from each other and this simple activity helps the children think deeper and investigate more. Colour and lightWe are experimenting with our overhead projector, combining colour and light to make things interesting. Art inspiration with leaves What are the little lines called ?? Veins. That sounds like planes. Exploring colours in the Busy Bee classroomWe read the book "Little blue and little Yellow" and tried mixing playdough to create a new colour. The boys pretended to be "Little blue" and" little yellow." We worked hard on mixing the two colours. The boys are using the magnifying glasses to make sure that every bit of "Playdough" is turned into green. "Look my ball of playdough looks like the earth." "Blue, blue, everything around me is blue!!"A step furtherWill it float or will it sink? The Busy Bees are learning to ask and answer scientific questions by making observations and doing experiments.
