It looks easy but for children it is a challenge to control their muscles. The children had to use the right amount of pressure to get the stream of paint on to the paper. If there were too much pressure we would have globby paint and too little pressure inconsistent paint. We had to stay focused, we had to control our movement and we had to plan as to where we wanted the paint.
Next we covered our base with clink wrap and used our little finger muscles to spread the paint all over. Our final product???
Colourful lollipops.
How can we be good communicators?
Mr. Prewitt taught us that it is important to be good communicators. We should express our ideas and tell each other what we need. Please do check out the book from the library" Mother, mother I need another" as the children really enjoyed the story.
The boys are really using their thinking skills in creating different structure around the block area. They decided that they wanted to have a window so that they could communicate. There was a lot of thinking put into the construction and they were open-minded to each others ideas.
Birthday celebrations in November
We celebrated all November birthdays by having a little treat in the North End coffee shop.
Math and fine-motor skills in one simple activity.
We set up activity trays all the time in our classroom. It's fun and developmentally meaningful. We set up activity trays in the middle of the classroom to appeal to the visual impulsiveness of your children. Each day we update each center a little bit by changing the material.
We are working on our fine-motor skills, colours, numbers and math by doing this simple activity.
What can I do with empty tissue rolls and a basin??
I think I can make a circle.
I made a tower around the small apartments.
We are using everyday material in art.
What can I do with a piece of string??
We used a straw to create this art work
Any ideas for a pile of felt?
Yes a train. One of the boys came up with an idea of building a train and the others were open -minded and went forward with the idea. They were good communicators and they are learning how to play in a group. The final product a train with a whistle and a funnel.
Can we make our own curtain?
We would like to make our own curtain with beads.
We open-minded and ready to listen to our friends.
We like our friends to join in as it's a big project.
Our project continues and we will keep you up dated of the process.
Swimming
A very big thank you to all parents who volunteered during the swimming lessons and our class mum Nikkie for co-ordinating the whole event. Mr. Swapon and Mr. Timo taught us to be risk-takers and have fun in the big pool.
Busy Bees take action.
At times we forget that our friends would like to save their projects and we clear it way. The boys and girls came up with an idea of setting up a sign. It has worked well and the children are been very respectful. Well done Busy Bees.
Do you know what I saw ?
"I saw a road that is built on big pillars. There were trucks on the top of the road as well as under the road. I built a bridge and tunnels."
Life skills
We learned two new words during our life skills lesson"After you". The Busy Bees are practicing these two important words in the classroom as well as in the playground.
The boys were able to use the two important words they learned"After You."
The boys wanted to play with the train track but they wanted to set the track on the table. First they started making their own track.
After some time they realized that it would be fun to play together. They were good communicators and they were open-minded too.
The boys realized that they had a problem. They could not build further. Hmmmm.....what can we do?? Ahhh...lets ask the teacher to get another table so that we could extend our building.
The boys used dried up leaves as trees and at times they would tilt the tree so that they had to thing of alternative track until the tree was cleared.
They used play to communicate, make good choices and express their feelings in a creative way.
We are Caring and we take care of our friends and the environment.
"I like to serve you tea everyday "
We change into different characters in our dramatic play area. I am a doctor and I will take care of you.
I like to play with my friend as he can't run around in the play ground. We like to chat and we play with twigs that we find around the playground.
Using the stones we found in our math lesson
What can we do with a empty rolls of tissue paper???
Communicators
Thinkers
The boys used the empty tissue paper rolls and the rolled up cardboard in many different ways. They turned it into binoculars, telephones, pipes and a snake.
Children keep discovering new things all the time. Kirstine started mixing colours and the others wanted to know more about her discovery.
As we wanted to know more about the different ways we could mix colours so we read a book call "little blue and little yellow" which goes well with our unit Feelings.
We mixed equal quantities of blue and yellow water and guess which colour we got?
We made play-dough during our cooking class this week and again we tried out our experiment with colours.
Yellow and blue.
When we mix the two colours up it turns into green.
Who took the cookies from the cookie jar?
We made our own cookies
We are trying to recognize our own cookie from the heap of cookies.
Our jar of cookies.
Inspired by nature
Transferring the images of nature to paper.
Life skills with Mr. Prewitt
We practiced saying two important words during our life skills lesson "I'm sorry".
We are looks at ways we could use everyday material in an imaginative way and the children came up with an idea of using leaves and twigs. We went on a nature walk with empty baskets and basins.
We collected dry leaves from different trees and then we came up with ideas as to how we could use the leaves.
We used nature as our canvas......
We coloured some of the sticks and stones that we collected from the garden.
Our unit for the next few weeks will be FEELINGS. Listed below is the central idea and the lines of inquiry.
Feelings
The central idea
We use play to express our feelings and ideas in order to come to new understandings.
Lines of Inquiry
1. Making good choices through play 2. Imaginative use through everyday material 3. Communication through play
As a provocation for our unit we had pictures of the adults in PK3 showing different emotions. The children were able to name some of the emotions and they were able to connect with the pictures as to how they were feel through out the day.
Imaginative use of everyday material
We are using bubble wrap to create our art work.
We are using empty paper rolls to make tunnels.
Hand writing without tears
The informal handwriting program prepares children to hold a crayon, colour, and draw. Indirect preparation towards writing help children have a better grip on the writing instrument.
Learning is fun with our buddies
We learn so much from our buddies. We like to share our ideas and learn new ways of playing using various materials. Our buddies from Ms. Jakins class invited us to their class so that we could see the "Little Red Hen" and the different props they used. We made our own hand puppets and acted out some of the parts in our classroom.
Life skills
Mr. Prewitt focused on an important word during our life skills lesson "Thank You." He read us three stories. 1.Paul's birthday 2.Joel's spaceship 3.Leah's mom
It would be great if you could ask them what took place in each scenario and how each person felt.
Ohanna's birthday
We celebrated Ohanna's birthday in September by baking cupcakes and and singing her favorite songs.
Incorporating books into our lessons
"I read the book "The Hungry Caterpillar " and drew my own".
Fraight trains and the book about fraight trains......
We are tracing the shape of our body and we are painting the cut-outs the way we like to show that we are unique human beings. It is fascinating to see how they come with different ideas such as outlining their body and filling in the center with different coloured paint.
Dress up and sharing ideas
We are risk-takers
We are enjoying our swimming sessions while learning to be great risk- takers. We can blow bubbles in the water and we have moved to the big pool from the splash pools.
